Katy J Pearson Shares New Track “Hey You”

Today new Heavenly Recordings signee Katy J Pearson has shared brand new track “Hey You” and its accompanying video. Watch it HERE.

Written during solo sessions at community artist space Island Studios in her home city of Bristol, the track was later recorded with Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, M. Ward, Perfume Genius, Gruff Rhys) at his studio Toy Box.

Talking about the track, Katy comments: “I wrote ‘Hey You’ quite a while back whilst I was in between projects and living back at home. I’d bought this pretty shitty nylon string from an incredibly passive aggressive man in Totnes and wrote the chord sequence. Somebody very close to me was having an extremely tough time and it was breaking my heart, so the song is definitely about them. It’s really just a song about love for people and family and empathy!”

The stunning video is directed by Unfolding Films and was shot at Portmeirion in North Wales. Katy elaborates:”I went to Portmeirion many years ago with my mother and brother. We used to always go and stay with my mums family friend up near Betws-y-coed area – I fell in love with the area and most importantly Portmeirion. I love the surreal, magical atmosphere of the place and it’s just so beautiful. I enlisted the help of my brother Rob who plays guitar in KJP and my good friends from an excellent band called Grandma’s House to star in it as my band – they all did a wonderful job. As you may notice we were all rather windswept as during filming we were battling the harsh gails and rain of Storm Brendan but it definitely added a certain vibe to the video!”

The directors, Unfolding Films added: “Set in the near mythical Portmeirion, Katy and her band are symbolically passing signals to one another. These secret communications are symbols of hope. As a band, as friends coming together to help each other through a time of need and out of a treadmill existence or just for the love. To look to the sky together and push away the clouds and dig in to the music.”

“Hey You” follows “Tonight,” her debut 7” release for Heavenly at the end of last year which also featured her own take of M. Ward track “Poison Cup”.

Having completed a European tour alongside Cass McCombs at the end of last year and more recently appeared at both the End of the Road Christmas party and the Line of Best Fit’s ‘Five Day Forecast’, she returns in to play alongside Pinegrove.
