Pop disruptor brother sundance — a.k.a. Rylan Talerico — returns today with an angsty new summer anthem called “Text You Back” featuring multi-platinum artist Bryce Vine. The breakout artist/producer’s first release of 2021 showcases his knack for penning brutally honest lyrics and crafting memorable, emotional hooks. The track also arrives alongside a fittingly minimal but striking video, which finds the duo in a vintage drop-top Buick, kicking up dust on a desert road trip.

Confessional and unfiltered, “Text You Back” is a perfect example of brother sundance’s diaristic approach to music. “If I don’t text you back, you shouldn’t get that mad,” he chants on the moody chorus. “Don’t take it personally, ‘cause I got demons on the mind and I been running out of time.” As the shuddering drum loops and acoustic guitar ring out, Vine heightens the tension with an energetic verse that references both Sex and the City and Stephen King’s Carrie amid his more internal reflections.  This new collaboration follows brother sundance’s critically acclaimed 2020 EP I HURT YOU, I MADE THIS.

The six-track set documents the newcomer’s struggle with burgeoning stardom and it spawned the viral hit “NIGHTMARES.” The project was championed by industry heavyweights like Zane Lowe, confirming the 22-year-old’s status as an artist to keep your eye on. With intense new singles like “Text You Back” already out, brother sundance will surely connect with even more tastemakers and adventurous listeners soon, so stay tuned.
