Today, Harlem rapper from the A$AP Mob collective, A$AP TyY returns with his new single and video for “1990” released via AWAL.

The emotive track is produced by Sean Turk [Lil Tecca, Tory Lanez], and is the first release from TyY following his 2019 album Project Rockstar. The accompanying visual, shot by Zev York, depicts A$AP TyY navigating through his home city of New York as the world around him fades into darkness. The initial heavenly depiction of his beloved city abruptly shifts into an eerie and somber shell of what it once was, culminating in A$AP TyY being consumed by this force.

On the release of “1990” TyY shares: “Like a lot of people, I struggled at times emotionally through the pandemic, and the thing that really saved me was leaning into the music. I took it back to basics — writing songs and making music every day. ‘1990’ came together organically. I knew when writing it that 2020 was going to be one of those years where we’re going to look back and be like, ‘man, we got through that’ and we did. It tells my personal story and connects my past and my present. The music video a is a metaphor for what it’s like to have the world crumble and rebuild around you. Always Strive And Prosper.”

A$AP TyY is next up out of the infamous Harlem collective and he’s bringing back grit and hard-hitting rap sounds back to New York. His previous releases have received acclaim from Hypebeast, Complex, HotNewHipHop, and more.
